In February, Sir Geoffrey held his winter farming surgeries with the NFU, and their members to update them on the latest farming-related news from Westminster, and to hear their current thoughts and concerns.
In attendance were the NFU's county representatives, who were able to advise Sir Geoffrey on the more pressing needs of farmers in light of the upcoming Spring Budget - the main priority being the cessation of Labour's cruel farming death tax. Sir Geoffrey, who has been a leading voice against the tax, assured farmers he would continue to take their thoughts to the top of government, including on issues such as Bovine TB and the lack of clarity on ELM schemes.
Sir Geoffrey said: 'This week I held another of my regular farming surgeries in the constituency. We discussed a wide range of matters of critical importance to local farm businesses, including, of course, the destructive policy of the Labour Government, in breach of its express and solemn promises, to impose death taxes on family farms and businesses. Dozens of bewildered and often elderly local farmers have contacted me about this appalling breach of faith and the profoundly disturbing and destabilising impact it is having on farm businesses. That fight will continue until this wretched policy is abandoned, but in the meantime much damage will be done.'
