Cash Machines, Great Torrington

11th July 2017
Following the closure of Lloyds Bank branch in Great Torrington, Torridge & West Devon MP, Geoffrey Cox, has written to Lloyds Bank urging them to reinstate the branch cash machine.
Mr Cox expressed his dismay that the bank has chosen to decommission the cash machine outside the now closed branch on Fore Street and is deeply concerned that the lack of cash machines pose a threat to the very survival of local businesses.
He has outlined that there is a lack of free cash machines in the immediate area, with the nearest one being an inconvenient distance away and charging a £1.95 transaction fee.
Mr. Cox said today: “Having access to a cash machine is essential both to the local townspeople, nearby villages and indeed, the prosperity of local traders especially in the tourism industry.”
“I will be raising the specific issue of the mobile banking van and its location with Lloyds to make sure the services it offers are made conveniently available to all customers.”
Despite Lloyds bank suggesting that the local Post Office could be used to make withdrawals, deposits and balance enquiries, Mr. Cox has pointed out that this is not a 24/7 cash point.
