Protecting Princetown

Princetown has received a double-blow recently with the indefinite closure of HMP Dartmoor, and the impending closure of the National Park Visitor Centre.

The residents of Princetown, alongside the traders who operate there, have shared their concerns about how the closure of the two great pull-factors of Princetown will negatively effect the local economy.

One may assume that a prison may not offer much in terms of a day out but between the Dartmoor Prison Museum, visitors, and the hardworking staff at the Prison itself, its closure will amount to a significant drop in footfall upon which the local businesses rely. I am, therefore, doing what I can to get clarity on when we can expect the prison to be reopened. Whilst also liaising with the Duchy of Cornwall, to help bring some fresh new opportunities to Princetown.

I am particularly interested in hearing how the closures have affected the local residents and visitors. If you would like to share your experience, please get in touch with my office at: [email protected]
