Small Business Saturday

Geoffrey Cox, MP for Torridge and West Devon, has joined Prime Minister David Cameron in supporting Small Business Saturday on 7 December, encouraging people across his constituency to shop locally and support small businesses in their communities.

Small Business Saturday, which takes place on one of the busiest shopping days of the year, provides a fantastic opportunity for people to support the five million small businesses that exist in the UK. These businesses are the lifeblood of the economy, employing millions of people.

The Conservative party has long recognised the importance of small businesses to the UK economy, and has introduced a number of initiatives designed to support them. The Start-Up Loan and New Enterprise Allowance Scheme have enabled the creation of over 30,000 new businesses in the last two years alone. In addition, a new discretionary power has been given to local authorities to offer local businesses rate discounts to help attract and support local firms.

Geoffrey Cox MP, who regularly meets with local businesses to support and help promote their interests, said: “Our local butchers, bakers, cafes and retailers are valuable resources in our small towns and villages, and are vitally important to Devon’s economy.

“Small Business Saturday is a chance to celebrate the amazing contribution these businesses make to our local communities, and I would encourage everyone to support them to ensure their survival and success.”
