No canine coalition here as George seeks outright Tory win - bullmastiff hoping to be crowned Westminster Dog of the Year 2011

George, the 3 year old Bullmastiff, belonging to Geoffrey Cox QC (Conservative MP for Torridge and West Devon) will be hoping for a decisive Conservative victory when he enters the 19th Westminster Dog of the Year competition on 13th October.

Proud owner Geoffrey explains: “This is George’s first year in the competition and I’m sure his spirit and handsome nature will win the judges’ over. What’s more, he has the gentlemanly manner and kind attitude that match his giant stature. He is sure to be one of the, if not the largest entrants, so there is no chance of missing this rescue dog, and he’s keeping his paws crossed for a win!”

The Westminster Dog of the Year competition is organised jointly by Dogs Trust and the Kennel Club and aims to highlight the unique relationship between man and dog. The competition is open to all Parliamentary pooches, regardless of breed or ‘pawlitical’ persuasion.

Geoffrey Cox has campaigned strongly against puppy farms in the past.

With not a speech writer or policy adviser in sight, the Westminster Dog of the Year competition is more than just a beauty competition and provides an opportunity for MPs to promote responsible dog ownership – poop scoop and all! Judges include Clarissa Baldwin (CEO Dogs Trust) and Vanessa McAlpine (Events & Education Executive Kennel Club).

The final takes place at 10.30am on Thursday October 13th at Victoria Tower Gardens, next to the House of Lords. A mixture of familiar canine faces and new additions to the Westminster Dog of the Year family will all be competing for the coveted title.
