MP starts the Tavistock "Big Toddle" Race!

Geoffrey Cox came to the Meadows on Thursday 8th July to start the annual "Big Toddle".

Geoffrey Cox, MP for Torridge & West Devon came to the Meadows on Thursday 8th July to start the annual "Big Toddle". The event was organised by the Tavistock Area Children's Centre (a Sure Start Children's Centre), with the aim of local families with children under the age of five taking part in a race around the park. All those who participated had helped to raise money through sponsorship to go towards the Centre's charity, Barnardos.

The MP was asked to start off the Pirate-themed race by cutting the start-line ribbon with a pirate sword, after which around 30 children and their parents and families raced off around the park.

Geoffrey Cox said "it was lovely to attend the race today, it's a great way of raising money for Barnardos and boosting the profile of this valued children's centre. I understand there are over 700 families who are members, demonstrating what an important role they play in the local area".

The Centre covers a wide area including Princetown, Bere Alston, Woolwell, and Horrabridge as well as Tavistock, and offers a variety of information, support groups and classes for both children and parents. Anyone wishing to contact the centre can phone 01822 614210.
